It’s been a wonderful, overwhelming beginning to the masters and I sort of knew what I wanted to focus on but perhaps too keenly trying to fit it into what I imagined was a framework that I really didn’t know much about … I knew that I wanted to think about the body and movement specifically how it moves and thinking about how it navigated through space…but I found myself thinking about interior spaces and how the body might react to that…but something felt a bit sticky and the idea wasn’t quite formulating and I was trying to fit it into some form of academic framework… academic research, and there was a lot to be said about it but my own place within it, I was playing around with some movement, it didn’t feel like it was going down a very clear path…and all of sudden I got this virus, or some sort of inner ear/vertigo for a couple of days…which meant to a day and a half of not really being able to get and being able to move…and needing to be staying inside and then that sat in my neck, and for the next couple of day as that the neck was out which meant sitting down to read or sitting down to weave was not really a possibilities so I had to find ways to move and suddenly it felt like a mini revelation happened, or a sliver lining to the whole situation that what I was so keenly wanting to do was to be outside, to move, to walk…and that then made me think about what I love…what I have been doing for a long, long time is walking and having spent the summer before the course started being out and exploring and being within the space, learning about my body within the space, learning what sort of sensory feedback you get from walking outside , especially by the coast, and in the countryside. That’s something that is incredibly special and resonates so deeply with what I find inspiring and therefore I think I’ve shifted more rather than being an interior practice, I think it really needs to be me being out there and seeing what I can find…so my exploration will be finding different paths, different journeys, mini adventures and recording audio of interesting sounds- that will be great to feed into some form of soundscape which potentially I could layer up. a:sp for me to take more notes of how my body is feeling within spaces, sensory feedback…how the body, the pace, the place, textures under foot, feelings within different parts of the body, what’s happening in my brain, what thoughts are coming out, and have that as a starting point. And then see how some video or film, documentation can also feed into other potential ideas about movement but also with the weaving/textile practice how I can replicate that and document it through that medium as well. And have a play and see what the right direction to go into…but yes it’s exciting that I’ve figure out a bit of a clearer path.
