Pretty much 100% of the time when I’m walking there is something in my hand…often it could be a pebble or a shell that I’ve picked up…one that you know is smoothed out that fits into your thumb, the tip of your thumb that you can keep anchored to something…and often it might be a dried that’s off a bush or a bit of grass just to fiddle around with. The fingers don’t want to stop moving, it’s almost like they’re envious of the legs and want to get involved. But that sort of tactility of touching something as you’re walking through a terrain it makes you somehow feel that much closer and I think its always been the case, not just coastal path, in nature, but on the pavement, the walk to school, waiting for the bus…catching a bit of lavender and sniffing that, somehow makes you feel that much more connected and anchored to what is around you, what you are experiencing … but yeah the hands don’t want to be left out…especially the thumb.
